Anything exciting from E3? Not really.
I have not been following E3 as much as I should. Maybe the focus on consoles is a bit to much, and the useful crap from Microsoft and other publishers how the PC is still on their minds (yea right).
A few trailers and minor announcements have caught my eye.
Crysis 2. It looks…fun. Its hard to tell if it will be as ground breaking as the last one. The urban setting is not new, but the effects with the falling building, the story driven elements and graphics look amazing. Also worth noting, it does look like a PC game rather then a console port. Hopefully this will be a great game that will push the graphics like its predecessor, and give the graphic card market a much needed boost.
A small tiblet from CA about their new game Shogun: Total war 2. The modified engine they are using will make the units and battlefield much more intense and sexy. Something worth noting is the tessellation they will be implementing in the game. The polygon count from tessellation is insane, and this game should look incredible. It may also be the game to see if the nvidia cards can live up to their tessellation advantage over ATI. Right now no games really take advantage of DX11 tessellation.
Another PC game shaping up nicely is the Witcher 2: Assassins of kings. You can buy the first game pretty cheap if you haven’t played it. If you are at all a rpg fan, you owe it to yourself to try The Witcher 2. Its such a fun rpg, and very, very adult. The second game should be a good experience, with its own style and class that separates it from the usual rpg bag.
This demo does not really do the first game justice. There is another video around with much better detailing of the game, with some massive dragon flying around lighting up a camp. Despite the slightly disappointing E3 demo, Im really excited about this game. The first game had a brilliant atmosphere with plenty to do (collecting cards anyone?).
Apart from that, E3 was the usual fair of gaming goodness. Maybe if I was there it would be worth my while blogging about.
Kye.
