DoW2: Chaos Rising impression

Ive been playing this for a few hours now, and stuck on the first level (after the tutorial). This game is not easy. Im playing on the second from hardest setting (because im hardcore that way). If your not careful during the mission you will aggro why to much to handle, and it gets pretty confusing during the mayhem. Its hard keeping your units together and I spend more time looking on the squad details on the right then I do on the battle, checking for health and trying to keep my squad alive.

As hard of a game that it is and as frustrating it is to fail a mission right at the end (twice), you get to keep the loot and xp that you gained before you ended the missions in failure,  which is where some of the fun is. Random loot is always a bit exciting, especially since they sound great but you have no idea what stats they carry. “Purging benediction” sounds as good as it is, and it gives you a chance to re-arm with much better gear making the missions much more easier. My Force Commander is not the small, weak and pathetic warrior he was before the last 4 attempts of the mission, but a flame throwing mini tank who I can depend on soaking up some fire so my assault squads can do their thing.

The only other problem I have is the save game mechanics. You cant save during a mission, only exiting the game will save your progress, but if you lose during the mission you lose the progress during the mission so you have to start again. Its pretty stupid, especially considering its made by a big developer who should know better. I think the only way to keep the progress during a mission is to ctrl-alt-del just before you know your going to lose. Its not ideal, but considering how hard this game is already you cant really not do this.

Apart from that, the game is fun and rewarding so far, and its reasonably priced as well, so any fans of Dawn of War 2 would definitely enjoy this. There are a few smaller details added into the game that give it that much more depth. Some squads have something to say before a mission through a speaker button beside there icon. Its actually not much, but its still enough to make the story that much more engaging, so you know Relic/THQ put some love behind this expansion.
